FAQs

Q. Does your firm have public liability insurance
A. Yes we are covered by a Public Liability Policy from ABICO Quinten to a maximum amount of $10 million per claim.

Q. What are the maximum numbers of trekkers you take on each trek?
A. We usually say 15 is our maximum however we can make exceptions to this rule to accommodate the needs of larger groups.

Q. What additional people do you supply on each trek - e.g. leader, guide, group porter, historian etc?
A. You will have an Australian historian who also has a military background. You will also have a PNG guide who is an expert on the trek itself and on the cultural appreciations of New Guinea. There will also be a team of Legends depending on the number of trekkers, this is in addition to any porters you may have.

Q. What is the accommodation arrangements on the Track - e.g. village accommodation, tents etc?
A. We endeavour to stay at guest houses along the track. In the event we are not able to stay in the guest houses we will use tents provided by Kokoda Historical.

Q. What will the additional cost of a personal porter be?
A. $499.00

Q. Do you provide your trek leaders with satellite phones and/or other reliable contact with your base?
A. We have used satellite phones in the past and found them to be unreliable due to the terrain. We carry a track radio and are in constant communication with our base in Port Moresby. We also use the track radio to check in with the Kokoda Track Authority that administers all the trekking across the track. In addition to this we also carry a PNG mobile phone.

Q. What types of meals are supplied on the Track?
A. Hydrated food packs are supplied which will be posted to you prior to departure. These can be combined in a group to make a large meal to share if desired and additional fresh fruit and vegetables may be purchased from the villagers at your own cost.

Q. Are track snacks provided by Kokoda Historical or by each individual?
A. Snacks are provided in the food packs.

Q. Are eloctrolyte supplements supplied by Kokoda Historical or by each individual?
A. Drink sachets are provided in the food packs, these provide a sugar and salt rehydration but you are welcome to take your own eloctrolyte supplements if you wish.

Q. Is it safe to leave my passport and other valuables at the hotel in the hotel's safe deposit box, or should you keep it with you on the trek?
A. Yes it is safe to leave your passport and valuables at the hotel in their safe. This is our procedure for all our treks and we have never experienced any problem with this.

Q. What type of sleeping bag is recommended?
A. Any lightweight sleeping bag is fine. It generally does not get very cold at night so one thats not too warm is ideal.

Q. Have any of your trekkers sustained injuries on the track? If so, what were they?
A. Kokoda Historical has a 100% safety record. We have never had any serious injury and we can honestly say so far the biggest medical problem on the track has been blisters.
