General Information

Upon arrival at Jackson International Airport we will obtain our VISA for entry cost is approx $50AU (100 PNG Kina, subject to change). We will also be able to change our money if you have not already done this. We suggest that you convert $250AU to cover your tourist visa and any incidental costs including meals, refreshments and laundry at your hotel.

Hotel

The hotel at Port Moresby has the facility to lock up any valuables e.g. passport, wallet. It is recommended that you take a small day pack. Along with your passport, wallet etc you can leave traveling clothes and shoes in storage until our return. Clearly label your pack with your name. Your room will have power sockets that are the same as those in Australia and these can be used to charge your personal items if necessary.

Gifts

If you wish to take something for the children in the villages, they love balloons and illume sticks or even a tennis ball.

Rubbish

Anything not burnt will be carried out with us. Reuse your sandwich bags to carry any rubbish.

Hygiene

Most guest houses have a toilet (a hole in the ground) it is recommended that you take wet wipes (available in a flat pack) and/ or toilet paper. Also we advise you to bring a small sports hand towel (quick-dry is preferable as this will help lighten the weight of your pack).

Dave is a wealth of knowledge on the Kokoda war history as well as local history and current Papua issues.
