Kokoda Track Sample Itinerary
If you have a particular place of interest that you wish to see for example you wish to trace the footsteps of a relative, then we can add this in to the itinerary. The beauty of keeping our groups small is that you the trekker may have some say in where we go.
Day 1
Arrival to Jackson airport, Port Moresby and transfer to our hotel. In the afternoon we conduct an “in country” familiarisation and a safety brief session. We will have our evening meal at the hotel.
Day 2
We have breakfast at the hotel and stow our gear into secure storage at the hotel. Transfer to airport for flight from Port Moresby to Kokoda.
Day 3
The morning starts with breakfast followed by a Battlefield Tour of Kokoda Station, including Kokoda Memorial and Kokoda Museum. After lunch we will begin our walk to Deniki. Our first nights camp on the Kokoda Track will be at Deniki.
Day 4
Trek from Deniki to wartime Isurava. The energetic amongst us will drop their packs and make a side trip to view the crash site of a Japanese ‘Val’ Dive bomber (Aichi D3A). It is a very tiring ascent, but for the military history enthusiast, it is a must! After this side-trip we will continue on to our campsite for the night at wartime Isurava village.
Day 5
Those keen for a breath-taking view, will be up before dawn to watch the magnificent sunrise through the Yodda Valley. We then walk to Templeton’s 2 via Eora Creek where we will stop for lunch. Tonight we sleep at Templeton’s 2.
Day 6
Today our trek takes us to Templeton’s 2 stopping at through Templeton’s 1 for lunch. We will continue to 1900 where we will rest for the evening.
Day 7
Today we walk to Myola, scene of the many supply drops made by RAAF and USAF Douglas Dakota “biscuit bombers”. Should time allow, we shall also visit the crash site of a USAF P40. Tonight we sleep at Myola.
Day 8
We leave Myola and trek through Naduri to Efogi 2, our target today being the village of Efogi 1. This is one of the ‘easier’ days of trekking and there will be plenty of time for rest and recreation in the afternoon.
Day 9
Today we travel from Efogi 1 across Mission Ridge to Brigade Hill. We will conduct a battlefield tour and hold a short service to pay homage to the men of the 21st Brigade. It was here that the Brigade fought as a whole for the first time in the campaign. Then we trek down through Menari to Nauro.
Day 10
Today we trek from Nauro to Ua Ule Creek, taking in the sights of Ofi Creek and Ioribaiwa along the way. Tonight we sleep at Ua Ule Creek. This is our last night on the track
Day 11
We are now on the home straight. This morning we walk from Ua Ule Creek up to where the “Golden Stairs” once traversed the Imita Ridge, through Goodwater and across the Goldie River to Ower’s Corner. This will be a great day, as you conclude the trek by passing through the famous Kokoda ‘Archway’.
Then we take a vehicle back to the comforts of our hotel. However we have one last official visit as we stop at Bomana War Cemetery to pay our homage to the men who saved Australia. We then continue on to our hotel in Port Moresby where we have a celebratory meal and a well deserved rest.
Day 12
Breakfast and morning transfer to Jackson Airport, Port Moresby for our flight back to Australia.

Testimonials
| Kokoda Historical: Graham, Michael, Robert and Scott Rosengreen. |
We haven't stopped talking about the Kokoda trek since we arrived home. We can't thank you enough David for the wonderful experience you gave us. Your knowledge of the track, the people, and in particular our wonderful military history on the Kokoda track and other battles in PNG is outstanding. I couldn't imagine doing the trek and not knowing of the lost battlefields that you filled in for us so professionally. Our main reason for going to Kokoda was to walk in the footsteps, pay homage and acknowledge the extreme sacrifice of so many young men who willingly gave their lives for us. We couldn't have done it without your expertise, and the friendliness and support of the Legends. Thank you so much, Graham, Michael, Robert and Scott Rosengreen. |

I want to thank you (David) for a fantastic trip, your entertainment and knowledge of the battle sites was of the highest professional standard I have encountered for many a year. The trek was without question the hardest and most exciting, thrilling trip I have ever been on and I have been on many deployment etc. |

I would firstly like to thank the whole team at Kokoda Historical for making my trip one of the best things that I have done in my life to date. The professionalism shown by the team along the track was amazing and the knowledge of all members is to be commended. Gary was a wealth of knowledge and seemed to just love every minute of the track and the history that went along with that. But easily one of the best things about the track was Gary's relationship with the legends which led in turn to all of us being able to bond with the legends, which by the looks of things many other tour groups missed out on. I would definitely recommend Kokoda Historical to any friends and family that were looking to trek the Kokoda Track. |

Just wanted to thank and to congratulate Kokoda Historical on the fantastic trip that I had! The organisation was exceptional and our tour guide Gary was superb! His knowledge and passion for the history of track meant that I didn't just leave having walked the track, but left with huge appreciation and awe of those who trekked before in such harsh and treacherous conditions. You know you have a good tour guide on your hands when other tour groups stop to listen in on the background and significance of certain parts of the track! |
| Kokoda Historical: Gavin Wright RAAF |
Gavin Wright, RAAFWhat a wonderful trip, the best and hardest thing I have under taken in all of my 40 years. Dave is a wealth of knowledge on the Kokoda war history as well as local history and current Papua issues. His great sense of humour and attitude kept everyone’s spirits high and helped you forget how hard the day’s walk really was. The legends that walked with us were just that “LEGENDS”. ANZAC day was one of the most moving I have ever attended; Isurava Memorial is very spiritual and picturesque at dawn and the perfect location with all of its history to hold a dawn service. ANZAC day is also a very special and memorable to the Papuans. I will be doing the track again and taking two of my sons next time. Thank you very much for the journey Kokoda Historical.
